Community Research Projects
At the heart of CLARI are the community, faculty and student partners that engage together on research issues that are a priority for the community. These partners undertake community research across many fields and themes. Below you can learn more about the many projects supported by CLARI funding. Mountain and the Valley: Multi-community Storytelling and Visual Expression
Dr. April Mandrona of NSCAD and Chris O’Neill, Executive Director of Ross Creek Centre for the Arts to share writing and visual arts practices with community members in the Valley area.

Dr. Kevin Quigley and his team at Dalhousie will support the Nova Scotia Chapter of Canadian Assoc of Retired Persons to bring their research on continuning care in Nova Scotia to action.

The Prosperity Circle – Collaborative Collective Business Planning for Indigenous Artisans & Entrepreneurs in Kjipuktuk
In this 2021 project, Dr Jane McMillan from StFX will work to support Pam Gloade Desrochers and her colleageus at the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre to develop an artisan and entrepreneurship retail space on the Halifax Waterfront.

Resilience in the Hispanic Community in Atlantic Canada: Creative Writing Workshops During the Pandemic
Latispanica Cultural Association members will get to explore their experiences with the recent pandemic through the lens of creative writing with Dr. Andres Arteaga, Saint Mary’s University.

Understanding Housing in Guysborough County
Dr. Catherine Leviten-Reid and her team at Cape Breton University are working with the Guysborough County Housing Network to better understand the dynamics of affordable housing in that county.

Dr. Will Shead, MSVU and Bruce Dienes, Gambling Risk Informed Nova Scotia will work with GRINS members to study gambling issues among young people.
