The Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre has an opportunity to leverage a retail space on the Halifax Waterfront. Their vision is to create an innovation hub for artisans and emerging entrepreneurs. But first the goal is to identify needs and gaps that are recognized by their members as preventing them from being entrepreneurially successful. Using an inclusive community based process to create a sustainable business plan, Dr. McMillan and her student will engage a community of Indigenous knowledge holders, artisans, crafters and business leaders, among others, to help create the Prosperity Circle. The intention is to create a collaborative where ideas and skills will be shared and a collective, culturally grounded retail space will emerge.
