Building Resilience in Healthcare Providers Through Pediatric Medical Camps: A Mixed Methods Study at Brigadoon Village
Healthcare providers Helen Opitz, Katie Quinn, Jules Lawrence (student research lead) and Jillian McGrath gather at Brigadoon Village.
Healthcare providers in Canada are experiencing a rising crisis of burnout and stress, with almost one-quarter of workers showing signs of anxiety or depression from 2020 to 2022. The percentage of nurses leaving the profession before age 35 increased from 32% in 2013 to 40% in 2022, posing a risk to workforce sustainability. Concurrently, organizations like UNICEF stress the need for innovative approaches to pediatric care, such as pediatric medical camps like Brigadoon Village.
This research seeks to explore how participation in such camps by healthcare providers might affect their resilience, aiding in advocacy and program development in pediatric care.
