We are pleased to announce the second event in our Community Research Series. These events provide an opportunity to hear more about CLARI funded projects and, at the same time, to take part in a larger discussion exploring the rewards and challenges of community research.

Community-Engaged Impact Research

Project Team: San Patten, Dalhousie School of Sustainability; Jennifer DeCoste, Founder, LifeSchoolHouse Cooperative Ltd.

Project Description: LIFE.SCHOOL.HOUSE. is a network of folkschools building non-traditional learning communities in NS that celebrate local wisdom, and build community from within while reinforcing the social value of barter and exchange as an alternative economy. San Patten and her student researchers are helping LSH to design and conduct a series of surveys, interviews and workshops to document the LSH practice and share the inspirational stories of LSH. This results of this work will be collected into a “Field Guide for Community Hosts” that will help to drive growth in the LSH community.

Mental Health and Covid-19: Bridging The Gap

Project Team: Dr. Daphne Rixon, Executive Director, Centre of Excellence in Accounting and Reporting for Co-operatives, SMU; Dr. Heidi Weigand, Rowe School of Business, Dalhousie

Project Description: Faculty and student researchers worked with the Healthy Minds Cooperative and a number of other local community groups to create a ‘bridging’ framework that would make mental health support available to those in a mental health crisis while they await clinical support.
